Spina Bifida Picnic

Suburban Corvettes of Minnesota members share their wheels with kids who live on theirs

On Sunday, September 25th, 25 Suburban Corvette Club members and New Brighton Rotary Club teamed up to provide entertainment at the Minnesota Spina Bifida Association picnic. Rotary opened the event with games and prizes including Chevy clocks and the very popular Corvette die cast cars. Special thanks to SCCM member Don Gettinger who donated a good number of Hot Wheel Corvettes also. After a BBQ, eighteen member Corvettes gave rides to kids and adults with Spina Bifida and families. We shared our wheels with kids that live on theirs.

Every September the Suburban Corvettes of Minnesota (SCM) teams up with the New Brighton / Mounds View Rotary Club providing games, prizes, and rides for families with Spina Bifida at the Minnesota Spina Bifida Association annual picnic.

The event starts each year with games for the kids provided but the Rotary Club and staffed by local Irondale High School students including at least one FCOA member.  Rotary conducts a drawing for prizes; die cast Corvettes are a favorite.

After a BBQ lunch for all provided by the Spina Bifida Association and taking a few minutes to check out the Vettes, it’s TM2CRUZ (time to cruise) as kids with Spina Bifida, their brothers, sisters, and parents line up for a ride.

SCM conducts several raffles annually and donates a percentage of event profits to camp scholarships and equipment upgrades for Spina Bifida families.

The next time you’re rolling through Minnesota and pass a minivan with a handicap plate, don’t be surprised if the kid in the back seat gives you a thumbs up.

Cars Under the Stars

Cars Under the Stars is a car show open to Corvettes and all other cars.

The evening of August 13, 2011 was the twenty-first anniversary of the Cars Under the Stars car show held at Village Chevrolet in Wayzata. The event this year was a huge success! We registered 101 cars: 53 Corvettes and 48 non-Corvettes. Congratulations to all twenty-one trophy winners!

The weather was finally cooperative this year, making a beautiful statement for the entire event. The food grilled on-site by Village Meats & Deli was delicious and the music and trivia questions by Chuck Brost of Tunes to Go kept us dancing, guessing and smiling.

We are grateful to Grant Osgood, general manager of Village Chevrolet, and his staff, for all of their help and support. Also, we would like to thank our other show co-sponsors: Corvette Specialties, Homeplace Inspections, Inc., Fehn Family Law, and LeRoy's Customs.

Finally, a big thank you to all of our volunteers from the club; without you, we couldn't have had this delightful gathering of car aficionados.

See you at the 2012 show!
