Fall Color Run, Oct 7-9, 2011
What is 83, 83, 81?
Well, that would be the temperatures for each of the 3 days of the 2011 SCCM Fall Color Run. That coupled with a beautiful drive made for a great weekend!
The Fall Color Run began Friday afternoon with 63 cars leaving the Bungalow restaurant in Lakeland, MN for a leisurely drive through beautiful Minnesota and Wisconsin on our way to LaCrosse, WI. Along the way we stopped in Pepin at the Pickle Factory to quickly refuel our tanks before the final drive to LaCrosse.
Friday evening was a great night of socializing with old friends and making new ones, especially the folks from Illinois! The DJ did a great job playing the music you all listed as your favorites, all 191 plus a few more.
Saturday morning dawned with absolutely perfect weather! The run with 249 cars left the T Rowe Park promptly at 10 AM with the Onalaska police providing an escort through Onalaska. The morning run proved to be filled with a good deal of change in elevation and a lot of curvy roads allowing for great viewing of Mother Nature's beauty. 368 people enjoyed a lunch and refreshments at the Firehouse Restaurant, and we were back on the run in 75 minutes! The afternoon route was equally beautiful and carried us through the Amish countryside. The total distance traveled was approximately 147 miles.
Saturday evening 181 people attended the banquet. The highlight of the evening was the raffle benefitting the Spina Bifida Society of Minnesota. The raffle was very successful due to the generosity of the gifts donated by Corvette America, Corvette Central, Corvette International, Corvette Specialties, Ed and Kris Bender of Deck the Walls, Wally Grivna, Kwik Trip, Pat Leahy, Mike Neeley, Suburban Corvettes of Minnesota, and Zip Products. Thank you to each individual and business, you made it possible!
Saturday evening concluded with dancing and enjoying all the pictures taken of the cruise and the weekend activities. Thank you to Rod Ramaker for the great pictures!
Sunday morning we topped off the weekend with a short cruise to the Cedar Creek Country Club for brunch. The refreshments were waiting as we walked in the doors and the spread of food was fabulous.
Special thank you to all the volunteers who make this happen, and to everyone who attended the 30th annual SCCM Fall Color Run!
